Never Turn Down a Free Meal

My Dad and his mother
When I was seventeen, I got pregnant with my daughter and married her father. On the eve of our (shotgun) wedding, my father sat us down and gave us two pieces of advice:
Never go to bed angry.
And
Never turn down a free meal.
Unfortunately, over the ensuing seven years, I was not good at following the first piece of advice. Neither was my ex-husband. But, the second has served me well (literally and figuratively).
Now, when someone offers to take me to lunch or to cook for me, I graciously say yes. Of course, I also do my share of feeding others. But it's nice to know that it's okay to accept someone's generosity. And I've never gone hungry.
Thanks Dad.
