Looking For Some Advice From Mom?
Not everyone wants advice from mom--their own mom or any mom. I do think, however, that none of us can get through life without learning from others. I was once asked: "If you had the opportunity, what advice would you give to the next generation?” I realized that we all have opportunity to share what we have learned. I decided to do some of that here. There is not, of course, a single or simple answer to the "what advice would you give" question.
I have a lot to say about leaving a legacy. As you will see, my perspective has nothing to do with leaving "stuff" for others to divvy up!
As a mom, and grandmom, I have lots to say about parenting, relationships, and friendships.
Some of what you will find on this site is my answer to the "what do I want to share" question. I offer my perspectives, and some of what I have learned, so far, about many aspects of life. I include some family stories and photos as well.
On other pages I share the wisdom and advice of others I respect and have learned from. As I share advice and resources, I look forward to hearing from you about what you are learning on this journey we are all on together. Feel free to use the contact page to share your thoughts and insights. I will read all of them and, with your permission, share some of them on the pages of this site.
Everyone has a need for wisdom in some areas of life more than others. Typically those of us who are older are presumed to have advice and wisdom to offer to those who are younger. Many cultures seek the advice of their elders and honor the “wisdom of the ages.”
The older generations really do have much to share and teach.
Recently an enterprising person offered his advice from mom--his mom’s words of wisdom--for sale on ebay! This young man knew what many moms wish their grown children would acknowledge: Mom has a vast store of life experience, insight and knowledge that is worth tapping into.
Wisdom and advice, however, are not the exclusive property of those who have lived a long life. We all have particular gifts of knowledge and experience to offer to others. Everyone can use a little free advice from those who are "more experienced" in some of life's situations.
I am a collector of quotes, sayings and beautiful words of wisdom. You will find many of them sprinkled throughout the site. Here are a couple of my favorites:
Wisdom outweighs any wealth. ~Sophocles
There is a wisdom of the head, and... a wisdom of the heart. ~Charles Dickens
