Frugal breakfast recipes We know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day...don't we? How about some frugal breakfast recipes that can get the family ready for the day while being easy on the food budget? There are some basic ingredients that are still cheap to purchase and can make lots of tasty family meals. Some of our favorite frugal recipes for all meals are found in 100 Meals for $5 or Less.

Here are some tips on ingredients to have on hand for your frugal breakfast recipes:

  • Eggs: they are the cheapest source of protein and starting the day with protein is recommended. There are dozens of ways to fix eggs.
  • Oatmeal: one of the healthiest whole grains and the cheapest. Don't buy the "add boiling water and eat" type. Buy a big box on the kind you cook.
  • Bananas: they are consistently one of the cheapest fruits. Use them to top your oatmeal, make banana smoothies, banana pancakes and more.
  • Frozen fruits: frozen strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and peaches are a bargain. You use only what you need and keep the rest frozen so there is no waste. Use them in breakfast smoothies, add them to your oatmeal, etc.
  • Dry milk: Many kids object to drinking dry milk however we found that if we mixed it half and half with regular milk they never noticed. You can also use it in all of your frugal breakfast recipes--and other recipes that call for milk. Flavor it with chocolate or strawberry syrup. Use it in your fruit smoothies.
