In today’s economic climate, Christian financial advice is not only wise and timely, but also desperately needed.

Fortunately, many of the Biblical principles presented thousands of years ago are still applicable today. Matthew 25:23 provides sound advice for securing and enjoying prosperity. It provides an excellent formula for success that you can easily translate into a very basic process. With this as a guide, you will be less likely to become easy prey to the world’s current financial system.

Equation for Success:

One of the Biblical principles that is a fundamental piece of Christian financial advice is very familiar and is spoken frequently.

“Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” (Matthew 25:23 King James, Version).

Author Richard Foster offers advice about money from a Biblical perspective that is both challenging and freeing.

This Biblical advice can determine the outcome of anyone’s present and future financial state, as it includes at least a two-part basic formula for good success. It encourages us to work hard and afterwards enjoy the fruits our labor. Today this translates into a simple equation of: Hard Work + Good Money Management = Financial Security.

Hard Work:

The first step, hard work, towards a prosperous life includes combining your personal talents with education, working hard, and seizing opportunities for growth. This fundamental practice will ensure that you secure tangible as well as intangible assets. Learning about personal budgeting and how to set financial goals is a great start.

Of course, hard work often goes against the idea of “get rich quick” and “have it now” that is so prevalent in today’s society. However, all too often those forever scrambling to get rich while avoiding hard work, often end up broke or committing acts that cost them a lot more than money.

Good Money Management:

However, all the hard work in the world will prove to be futile without Good Money Management. Good money management entails wise decisions, discipline and at times, old fashioned sacrifice. Unfortunately, in today’s society, success is too often seen as working as little as possible and spending in advance of earning with credit cards and excessive mortgage payments.

We must remember not to spend tomorrow’s money today, and to stay out of debt, which is another Biblical principle. Debt, especially credit card debt is nothing but financial slavery.

Proverbs 22:7: “The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.”

Romans 13:8: “Owe no man any thing…”

Giving:

Of course, there are many people who have worked hard all their lives, and practiced good management, only to suffer financial setbacks. Often this financial hit is a result of bad financial decisions, and other times it is simply a result of a bad economy. However, anyone who practices the financial advice of the Bible, should also be familiar with the principle of giving.

Proverbs 21:26: “… the righteous give and spare not.”

Proverbs 22:9 “He that has a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he gives of his bread to the poor.”

So according to scripture, giving is better than holding on to your money. In fact, Jesus, himself, said in Luke 6:38, “Give, and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”

Without Christian financial advice based on the Bible, you are certain to fall prey to the tactics that currently plague our society. Advice given thousands of years ago is more than valid today...work hard, manage your money wisely, give to the poor, and trust in God and not money.

1 Timothy 6:17: Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded; nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.
