Body Soul Spirit

Definition of Soul; Definition of Spirit

Each person born into this world is a being made of three distinct components: body, soul and spirit. The body, the physical characteristics that others see, is only a small part of who we are.

The body is a physical representation of our being. It grows, matures, begins to deteriorate, eventually dies, and then decomposes back into its constituent elements and remains a part of the dust of the world. The body is a part of you but is NOT ALL of what defines who YOU are.

Who we are "inside" is our real self. The health and well-being of our spirit and soul is truly what determines who we are and how we live and thrive in this world. The physical body, it's health and wellbeing or of disease expresses the condition of our emotional and mental well-being. The body is a reflection of a soul that is whole and a spirit that is fulfilled, rather than a representation of any human standard of goodness or perfection.

Our body cannot experience well-being if our soul and spirit are not in health. These two words are often used interchangeably and it can be difficult to define them.

What is the Difference Between Soul and Spirit?

A definition of the soul

The soul is the spiritual componant of who we are. It is the "core essence" of our being, our "I AM" so to speak; our "heart." The Biblical definition of a soul is simply "a breathing body." The text does not say that man (and woman)was given a soul, but rather he or she became a soul. A soul is not something a person has, it is the person

The soul is the location of our inner world. It is where we enter into the delights and dilemmas of interior life - the thoughts, intentions and desires that influence all parts of our lives. It is in the practices and disciplines of this inner world that we can begin to experience a healthy soul.

A definition of the spirit

If we are serious about changing our life and discovering our purpose, we can achieve a life filled with deeper meaning.

The spirit is the source of power and control for both our body and soul. It can be given over to good or evil, darkness or light.

There are many things you can do to add joy and meaning to your life. Discover your purpose and learn some practical, and enjoyable, steps you can take to revive your spirit.
