Thanksgiving Ideas and Resources

These Thanksgiving ideas and resources will help you enjoy your Thanksgiving traditions as you gather with family and friends.

Thanksgiving is less than a week away. We look forward to enjoying our Thanksgiving traditions and, as always, are going through our Thanksgiving recipes to choose those we know our guests will expect and also to see if there are some tasty variations we can include this year.

Other than the turkey or ham, the most searched Thanksgiving recipes are recipes for potatoes. Many are looking for a really easy mashed potato recipe. This page includes our own best mashed potato recipes and some unique variations on mashed potatoes that our readers have shared. New this year, on our Best Potato Recipes website is a wonderful recipe for make ahead mashed potatoes. With all there is to do in the kitchen on Thanksgiving Day, this is a real help.

You might want an alternative to mashed white potatoes; a mashed sweet potato recipe is a great side dish with both turkey and ham. Or you could have sweet potatoes for dessert with a yummy sweet potato pie. Here are recipes for these and many other sweet potato recipes.

Our Scandinavian family members insist that our Thanksgiving dinner menu include some traditional Scandinavian recipes for holidays including a potato lefse recipe.

We have many other recipes that might add some pizzazz to your holiday menu on our Visit Minnesota website that features traditional Minnesota recipes.

Thanksgiving traditions pages on the Best Advice from Mom site have lots of free downloads for table place cards, napkin holders and kids games. You will also find Thanksgiving table prayers, information about the history of Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving poems, quotes and jokes.

I hope Thanksgiving is a day of joy for you with good food and warm connections with those you love. If you don’t have an invitation to Thanksgiving dinner, consider inviting someone to share the day with you.

For each new morning with its light,
Father, we thank thee,
For rest and shelter of the night,
Father, we thank thee,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything thy goodness sends,
Father, in heaven, we thank thee.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

After dinner we may download An Old Fashioned Thanksgiving to wrap up the evening.
