Frugal Living Ideas for Tough Times

Several of our adult children have recently been laid off from their jobs. This is the first time anyone in our family has had difficulty finding work. My guess this is happening to people you know and love as well. The economic situation we are all in was the “spark” for me to add some new pages to the Advice From Mom site. The page that is linked below gathers links to all the new pages on one page. See if you find something there that applies to what you are experiencing as well.

It seems that the things one generation learns are unlearned when money is plentiful and have to be relearned when it is not. If there is any good news about the struggle in the economy, it is that we have opportunity to learn some new skills and the joy of knowing that we can gain control of some of what has been out of control.

I know that all of you have wisdom and tips you can share about saving money, doing with less and finding ways to cope with current realities. I’ve added lots of places on the Advice From Mom website that give you an opportunity to share those tips and stories. I hope you will let others know what is working for you. You may encourage and help many who just need the inspiration you can offer. Here are some places to share:

What Is the Best Advice You’ve Ever Received?

Last, I want to recommend a couple of resources. The first is a page on the website where I’ve added three free ebooks that you can download. You, or someone you know, may be looking for a way to start a home business. This site, Advice From Mom, and 3 other sites I own, have become a primary source of income for our family. The ebooks will explain how that works. This is not a “get rich quick” scam….it will take real work. But it CAN produce real income. Here is the link:

Three Free E-Books

Finally, there is a great, (not free…but cheap), set of e-books that will show you how to save hundreds on everything your family needs. They are written by Tawra Kellum and I highly recommend them. You will find them here:

Living On A Dime

Here is a quote I appreciate:

Of one thing we can be certain: our wants will always exceed both our needs and our funds. If our own egocentric greed does not ensure that, then advertising will. If we allow our wants to determine our buying patterns, the result will be chaos—and considerable debt. ~Richard Foster, Freedom of Simplicity

All my best to you and your family,

"Mom"
